Flying the E170

I just got done with a round tripper to Glasgow on the brand new E170 (after all the work on updating the fleet page and schedules, I couldn’t resist!). It is one SWEET aircraft! The proportions seem to wear our livery perfectly. As far as the flight model goes, it is excellent! If anyone remembers the handling of the BAe146 that the 170 replaces, you will feel like you just traded in your Chevy for a BMW! Get on and try those new Embraers!

Embraer Jets/Regional Network Overhaul Announced

This week, we will be replacing our older and inefficient BAe146 and EMB120 aircraft with 2 new E170 and 2 new ERJ135s! This also makes us an ALL JET CARRIER!! They will be replacing the old fleet on a 1-for-1 basis, so there are now new destinations at this point. However, this is the beginning of a rapid expansion of regional jet operations here at Celtic, and we have announced orders for up to 40 Embraer jets.

You can expect to see these additions and the changes to the timetable tonight or tomorrow. FULL PRESS RELEASE HERE

RSS Feed? PLEASE USE IT!

You will notice a small orange icon at the top right of the Blog that says RSS Feed. This is basically a way that you can stay up to date on content that is updated often on a website. In order to receive these updates, you need to SUBSCRIBE to the feed using an RSS Feed Reader.

You can either use the built-in RSS Feed Reader in your web browser, or you can use a standalone program. This site gives a listing of many such programs: Top 10 Windows RSS Feed Readers and News Aggregators . An RSS Feed Reader that updates and alerts automatically (with pop-up notifications) is Klipfolio .

Many, many sites across the web, from member sites like our own, to the likes of CNN, use RSS feeds, and once you start using the readers for a number of your favorite sites, you will not want to live without them. You will be able to see the information you want to see, when it is updated, rather than repeatedly going to a site only to find that it is STILL not updated.

While that is a great, life changing experience for you, and I’m all happy about that, my selfish motivation is that I can be confident that you are getting so see what is posted here on a regular basis.

Whichever method you choose, please take the small amount of time it takes to subscribe. There is no email involved, just a program pulling the information you want from the web and keepimg you up to date.

Website Changes

We have just installed a new headline feed coming from this blog which will display all blog posts that are tagged as “News” on the homepage. This greatly streamlines our front page update process, and will ensure that the latest and greatest gets to you more quickly. Posts like these, and those that are discussions of future plans, etc., will still appear here, but will not post to the homepage. So, remember to keep checking here regularly. SUBSCRIBE TO THE RSS FEED to stay up to date.

The TeamSpeak server project has been put on hold as we evaluate some better options. So, for the moment, the TSViewer icon has been removed. The FSHost server is also under re-evaluation. With all of the online flying opportunities available, we are not sure if it will be used enough to justify the cost and effort. Right now, we are leaning towards keeping it, and having it open at pre-announced times. POST YOUR OPINIONS IN THE FORUM!

We are currently working on creating new hub pages as well as some new interactive features. The exact format has not yet been decided, as all of these new features may be included in one large center, or each may be given its own section. That, however, is just organization. The actual content will be announced in a separate post…and, believe me, this will merit its own post.

Finally, you should have received an email by now regarding communication and the tools we will be taking advantage of on the site. Please pay special attention to this blog as well as the FORUM.
